5 Walks - Hercynia Silva
Anna Abrahams NL, 2008, 16', 35 mm"In the northern region is the vast expanse of the Hercynian forest, untouched by the ages and coeval with the world, which surpasses all marvels by its almost immortal destiny." (Pliny, Natural History, 23-79 AD)
Mysterious, enchanting, idyllic – that’s not the forest itself. We fill it with meanings by means of images and tales on hunters, preys and meetings with magical beings. Culture annexes nature by inspiring it. The chaos of the untouched Hercynian forest and apparent order of civilisation are as two sides of a booklet. First part of a film series concerning the cultural meaning of disappearing European landscapes.
