Attention in film is not merely a passive state of watching; it is an action, an active cognitive and perceptual process through which viewers construct the film’s narrative, meaning, and emotional experience. This action goes two ways: in the act of creation but also in the act of perception. This selection shows all aspects of attention: as a form of personal rebellion in Berna's Eyes, and as an escape in Desert, She, or as a form of freedom in Hysterical Fit of Laughter. But attention is not only about the present – it is also about the past as in Rahlo or as an act of memory as in Hope Hotel Phantom.
