Bardo Thodol

Simon Bogojević Narath HR, 1999, 45', SD video

Bardo Thodol is author's interpretation of the The Tibetan Book of the Dead, text of the Mahayana tradition in Tibetan Buddhism. Its widely known use is in after-death rituals. The purpose of the text, besides conveying the Buddha teachings, is to help the dead through the temptations of after-death visions on their way to nirvana or reincarnation as painless as possible. Likewise, in the video we follow the actor after an accident, entering the Bardo Death state and ending in his reincarnation as a human being; a good ending, but not necessarily the happiest. The shooting technique involved most of the currently available video and film formats. All special effects, animation and image processing was done using 2D / 3D animation and compositing software on Pentium NT platforms.
