From To

Public institutions, waiting rooms and means of public transport are spaces with different names but identical characteristics. The places one uses in order to reach another place. They are ‘interspaces’: temporary and excluded spaces that interact with everyone in the same way, routinely, without interest in the individual. Humankind feels anxiety and ‘loneliness reflecting millions of others’ (Marc Augé). Or perhaps one is relieved by the anonymity of a temporary identity? Does a man hope to change this relationship or does he wish to merge with the absence of identity? Are there ‘non-places’ for us alone? Do these ‘non-places’ exist because we need them?
