Long Shadows

Long Shadows assembles found moments and gestures into a haunted sequence, dreaming backwards through the seasons of a childhood spent on a northern lake. Re-animated frames of long lost and decaying home movies of the 1950's are rendered in watercolour and manipulated with direct animation processes. In search of echoes the accompanying soundtrack was composed with sounds collected from the original site of the source material that the animations were based on. Tape loops created from hydrophone, field recordings and piano, provide the aural accompaniment to the images. Cut to vinyl record the soundtrack exists as a loose recreation of the Vitaphone system.
