Mr. Sea
Xue Geng CN, 2014, 13', HD videoMr. Sea is the adaptation of a story from Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio (Liao Zhai Zhi Yi), a collection of surreal tales by Pu SongLing (1640-1715), Qing Dynasty’s ghost writer. It is a mysterious tale of a scientist with a serpent tempter and a prostitute in a wasteland. The film was made with ceramic sculptures and one of its greatest values is that it turns ceramics into a language, whose characteristics it shows. It delicately portrays the metamorphosis from clay to sculpture to ceramics in motion. Ceramics is a material, language and objective. Also, this film blends with new content and manner of creating art in traditional Eastern culture, aesthetics and contemporary context. It speaks about the ultimate concern for human beings and survival from a tiny personal point of view in a bardic art language.
