Oh
Anouk De Clercq BE, 2010, 8', HD videoOh seeks to reanimate the ambitious, utopian spirit of renegade architect Etienne-Louis Boullée (1728-1799), neoclassical French architect, renowned for his mostly unrealized, utopian and geometrical designs. He was sometimes seen as megalomaniac, but always as a visionary as well. Boullée's most well-known design was a gigantic, spherical cenotaph for Isaac Newton: an enormous, perfectly round and hollow space with small perforations that allow the daylight to seep through. Oh also continues upon De Clercq's interest in space and virtuality: the stylized, black-and-white images explore the tension between real and imaginary, analogue and digital, monumental and intimate.
