Reunion
Sebastian Buerkner UK, 2017, 85', HD videoA screening as performance by artist-filmmaker Sebastian Buerkner that takes the stable reality of a vintage TV detective show as a jumping off point into audio-visual disorientation. The show's well-known shambling detective investigates a murder that seems to have been performed by means of subliminal images, eventually turning the visual trickery to his own advantage. Partially substituting this action, in which clear, unambiguous truth is supposed eventually to triumph, this piece is a medley of experimental moving image works by artists such as Fred Worden, Blake Williams, John Smith, Rafael Montañez Ortiz, Paul Bush, that revels in the vulnerabilities and vagaries of audio-visual perception.
