Ruta and the Monument
Renata Poljak Ruta i spomenik, HR, 2008, 18', SD videoThe video is inspired with the short fiction story (by Miljenko Jergović) of Jewish "princess" from 1943 who wished to become invisible. On another part of the film we follow tourist guide in the end of 2006 "interpreting" Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin. The guide speaks in English and retells scandals and anecdotes related to the monument. Tourists are smiling all the time. An excerpt from the novel Ruta Tannenbaum by Miljenko Jergović was used in the film.
