We saw nothing but the uniform blue of the Sky
Damir Očko IR, 2012, 12', HD videoWe saw nothing but the uniform blue of the Sky is based on an anecdote told by a group of nomads on the Burman shores (known as the Moken or Sea Gipsies) to a CBS reporter, explaining how they survived the 2004 tsunami. To the question how come it was them who survived and Burman fishermen did not, one of the Mokens said that Burman did not know how to look at changing things because while catching squid they forgot to look at other things. His conclusion that they “did not know how to look so they did not see a thing” is the starting point of the film, concerning not only the tsunami or the Moken, but referring also to their simple explanation of the complex issues of identifying changes within a certain social unit and trying to answer the question of the effort of “identifying” as a survival mechanism in our society.
