“In Bolivia, huacas are important places in the landscape with which, through rituals, there is communion. You go and make an offering. When you do it, you say: 'We must let Pachamama eat.' When you make the offering, you also eat. The same thing happens in the communion with the dead. During All Saints, in November, when we go to see our dead, there is a need to commune through food. I've been interested in exploring different relationships, not only between humans but with non-humans, with animals, or with huacas or the dead.” (Luciana Decker in conversation with Pablo Gamba)

Among the meanings of huaca (wak’a): 1) an object or place that is sacred, 2) the stones that can be moved and are regarded as the doubles of a mythical, deceased ancestor who lives in the mountains, 3) the place where such stones are sheltered. (Federico Windhausen)
