1. I have a question about submissions. How can I get an answer?
Read Festival Regulations. Here are the most common questions, and if you still need some answers, read Festival Regulations again. We just know that every relevant answer is there.

2. Is there an entry fee
No, submission is free of charge.

3. How many films can I submit?
Maximum three works per author/director.

4. What type of films does 25 FPS Festival search for?
Innovative explorations of the possibilities of cinematic language, narration and the medium itself. Film types and genres that cross and broaden the notion of film as art. Expressive original concepts, progresses in terms of theme, idea and aesthetics, works that perpetuate the tradition of avant-garde and experimental film. And we mean it literally.

5. Is my film eligible for submission?
If it is completed after 1^st of January 2023 and shorter than 60 minutes, you can apply. If your film is 61 minutes long, it is not eligible for submission. If you submitted the same film for the last year’s edition, you cannot submit it again.

6. How can I submit my film? Can I upload it or send it via file transfers?
You can send it on a DVD or via LINK streaming through Vimeo, YouTube and Google Drive channel. You CANNOT upload it or send it via file transfers (Dropbox, WeTransfer, Jumbo mail, etc.).

7. When and how will I know if my film is selected?
Selection results will be published on 15th of July 2025 on the Festival website. Due to the large number of submissions, we cannot notify all the applicants. We will inform ONLY films selected for the Competition Program.

Festival Regulations

GENERAL

25 FPS Festival is organized by the 25 FPS Association for Audio-visual Research, Zagreb, Croatia.

25 FPS Festival is an annual international film festival dedicated to showcasing innovative cinema and its expanded forms. It honors recent experiments in film while celebrating the rich history of the avant-garde. The festival highlights original and expressive concepts, explores advancements in thematic, conceptual, and aesthetic approaches, and embraces works that expand the notion of film as art.

ELIGIBILITY

Films and videos eligible for the application need to correspond to the Festival profile described in General, completed after 1st of January 2023, and not longer than 60 minutes. Each author should submit not more than three works.The Festival does not pay a screening fee for the works selected for the Competition Program. Submission to the Festival is free of charge.

SUBMISSION

The Festival accepts applications submitted via:
a) DVD or
b) link

If an applicant decides to submit the film on a DVD, it should be sent to the official Festival address with a filled and signed entry form. Pre-selection DVDs are not returned and remain in the festival archive. If a DVD is sent from abroad, the envelope should be clearly marked as “No commercial value, cultural purposes only”. The shipping cost is covered by the sender.

If applicants decide to submit the film via the link, they should fill out the entry form but do not have to send it by post. They should state a valid internet address where the film is uploaded and, if the film is protected, provide a password and enable film downloading. The link and password should be available and valid until 30th of August 2025. The Festival guarantees to download the file for pre-selection purposes only.

If the work contains text in any language apart from English, English subtitles are mandatory.

SELECTION RESULTS

Selection results will be published on 15th of July 2025 on the Festival website.

Festival will notify the contact person of the selected work to deliver text, images and video material for print, internet and promotion.

Festival WILL NOT notify all the applicants, just the ones whose works are selected for the Competition Program.

SCREENING OF FILMS AND VIDEOS

Eligible screening formats for the works selected for the Competition Program: DCP, 35 mm, and 16 mm. DCPs must be DCI compliant and must be delivered with no KDM encryption key.

The Festival will subsequently deliver the technical specifications for the screening, upon the selection of the work for the Competition Program.

The screening copy (with English subtitles if the work has text) has to arrive at the Festival’s office by 1st of September 2025.

The Festival reserves the right to refuse a screening copy of dubious technical condition, or the one which may cause problems during the screening. In case the Festival has to ask for a new screening copy, cost and shipping will be borne by applicants.

SHIPPING OF FILMS AND VIDEOS

Parcels arriving from abroad should be marked with: "For cultural purposes only, no commercial value". When sending by courier post outside the European Union (DHL, FedEx, UPS…), dispatches must be accompanied by a PRO-FORMA invoice amounting to a maximum of 20 EUR or 20 USD.

The screening copy will be returned within two weeks after the Festival, and the address should be confirmed while arranging shipping details. In case of undefined or belated confirmation of the return address, the Festival is not liable for any inconveniences it may cause. The Festival will pay the shipping costs in ONE DIRECTION ONLY, and will make no exceptions.

PROMOTION

During the Festival dates a video library for professionals is organized. The Festival can use the submitted films for Festival promotion in Croatia and abroad; and use the film stills and excerpts in not more than 10 percent of the total film duration. Films submitted to the Festival are added to the Festival’s video library and archives Kratka baza and are used for non-commercial, educational purposes, and strictly individual consultation of the films unless the applicant did not state differently in the entry form.

AWARDS

In 2025 25 FPS Festival will hand out prizes in cash and services according to its possibilities, and will notify all the selected filmmakers in Competition Program.

The Organizer holds the right to change Awards regulations.

RESPONSIBILITY

Preview DVDs and files will be stored in the Festival's archives Kratka baza. The Festival might use them for its own, strictly cultural, educational, non-commercial purposes, and for individual consultation of the films.

Should a screening copy be damaged after the Festival, the Festival can compensate only the material value of the physical copy.

The Festival will take the responsibility if the copies got lost or damaged during transport because of the Festival’s doings, otherwise the Festival will not be considered responsible for the loss or damage.

Any complaint regarding the condition of the screening copies must be made within 30 days after the date of their return shipment.

OTHER

Cases not covered by these regulations will be considered directly by the Festival’s Committee in compliance with the regulations of international festivals of short film.

In case of litigation, only the courts of the City of Zagreb shall be competent and have jurisdiction.

Festival preselects entries through downloaded files via links. Please make sure that the option for downloading of the file is enabled; username and password must be valid until 30th of August 2025. Festival does not except submissions via large file transfers such as WeTransfer, Jumbo mail, Dropbox, etc. but exclusively through Vimeo, YouTube and Google Drive. Server upload is not possible.
