Haircut #1
Andy Warhol US, 1963, 24', 16 mmHaircut #1 pays tribute to members of the early 1960s experimental dance collective Judson Dance Theater, including lighting designers Billy Linich and John Dodd, dancer Freddie Herko, and choreographer James Waring. Unlike the more minimalist portrait films Kiss and Blow Job, Haircut #1 is noteworthy for its shifting camera position. Herko’s striptease and everyday movement, drawing on dance styles featured at Judson, steals the viewer’s attention away from the “haircut” that inspired the film’s title.
