Light Display: Black-White-Grey
Lásló Moholy-Nagy Lichtspiel schwarz-weiss-grau, DE, 1930, 6', 35 mmThe only abstract film made by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy was based on the light patterns caused by his Light-Space Modulator. This was one of the first kinetic sculptures ever made, and consisting of several perforated volumes - a ball, differently curved objects, carefully choreographed in a cycle of movements. The film mostly shows the shadows and reflections of the machine, and was originally planned in six parts, but only the last part was filmed. It's composed of documentary photographs of a rotation light prop; large shots of the numerous discs, screens, mirrors, and ball-shaped structures join forces with the fades to produce an abstract play of light and shadow, evoking the new space-time.
