Nice Colored Girls

Tracy Moffat AU, 1987, 16', HD video

Using a combination of acted scenes, voiceover narration, on-screen text and sculptural sets, Nice Coloured Girls interweaves fictional moments set in 1980s urban Australia with colonial narratives of the “first encounter” between European men and Aboriginal women. As a playful dis-identification with these historical models takes place, traces of violence and enforced silence resurface.
