Open Reel
Dalibor Martinis HR, 1976, 4', SD videoMartinis’s Open-reel is characterized by the same fascination with the possibility of the video technique to shoot self-referencing material, just like in Trbuljak’s work. The author is holding one end of a tape coming from an open-reel video recorder. He spins on a chair and wraps the tape around his own head. The whole scene is recorded on the very same tape by the camera connected via cable to the recorder. The whole performance resembles Borges’s phantasmagoric story layers that tell of themselves.
