Soul Research Laboratory: search and hide

The 4th film from the series Soul Research Laboratory I – IV (Portrait), in which Karø Goldt creates a visual and audio space which in its livid colors and texturedness produces an almost tangible haptical experience and an experience of the interior. Beginning with a photo portrait the minimal movements and changes of the face find in the close-up its realisation in a cinematographic space which beholds simultaneously the veiling and unveiling of inner life. We can interpret the apparition, but we cannot define it. The tension resides in the interstices between veiling and unveiling – the aim and effect of the purely sensuous image, the very image which Karø Goldt unfolds in her filmic works. By making visible the otherwise invisible the viewer experiences an intense approximation of the ineffable, that which continuously withdraws from all specifying attributions. The minimal gesture of the electronic soundscape wraps the images and supports the momentum of inscribing meaning while also refusing it in the flow of the continuous metamorphosis of the face in close-up: the image of a soulscape.
