Split Second
Christine Abdelnour, Stefano Canapa, Ryan Kernoa FR, 2010, 30'Music-film performance
A powerful music and film performance by a trio consisting of Christine Abdelnour, an original and creative saxophone player who creates astounding electro-acoustic music from the acoustic instrument; Ryan Kernoa, whose guitar improvisations introduce a hypnotic rhythm; and Stefano Canapa, with a triple 16mm projection. Together they create an impression of tangible force that gradually, acoustically and visually disorient a viewer. Perceiving lines and forms in music, repetition and disappearance of vibrations, spatiality of sound explored in its depth, height and silence, moves to the screen in a harmonised interplay of light with specially adapted projectors. The images engulf the sound, breath stops. Just like music technically composed of multiple frequencies, pulsations and interferences between different harmonics, produced by the special effect of “beating”, the viewer’s pulse stops only to end up in a magnificent distortion.
