The Split Watercolour

Boris Poljak Splitski akvarel, HR, 2009, 15', SD video

Žnjan, one of the Split beaches, was made by filling the coastline with sand and soil from the sea. It is not organised like a proper beach and is therefore used also as a parking lot, which characterizes it as a city beach for citizens of lesser means. The filming objects are people on the beach, caught by a powerful telephoto lens in everyday situations typical for beach life. The swimmers, sea, cars and boats vibrate in a sweltering summer day like a moving pointilistic painting. It is as if their slow rhythm creates a picture of their bare existence.
