The 15th edition of 25 FPS Festival, the international festival of experimental film and video opens its doors to audience thirsty of innovative, avant-garde and hybrid film, video and audio-visual performances. Join us tonight at 20h in Kino SC, at the screening of the first competition programme. Entrance to all events is free.
The 15th edition of 25 FPS kicks off with a screening of Charts, the first competition slot, consisting of four short stories whose cameras wander around the paths, roads and borders of geography and history. One of the films to be screened in the programme is That Which Is to Come Is Just a Promise, a new piece by the audio-visual group Flatform, who won the Special Jury Mention for their Sunday 6th April, 11:42 a.m. ten years ago.
Each competition title is also eligible for the Audience Award, so don't forget to choose and vote for you favourites after the screening.
After the opening ceremony and first competition programme, join us at Wavelength, one of the two audiovisual performances of the Expanded Cinema section, in which Stefano Canapa and Antoine Birot will take you on a visual and acoustic journey on their 16 mm projectors and handmade musical instruments.
In the upcoming days, don't miss Jury's Choice, programmes curated by this year's jury members. Shai Heredia takes you on an exciting journey through modernised India, Kim Knowles will soak your pupils in a warm analogue bath, while Louis Henderson will demonstrate the use of archaeology as an aesthetic method. Reflexes, on the other hand, is a programme focused on Croatian experimental cinema – its topics, trends and hybrids, offering a valuable insight in contemporary Croatian avant-garde scene.
Returning this year is Kino 23 – a programme devoted to feature films that aren't necessary experimental, but are formally, thematically or spiritually close to 25 FPS. Dennis Hopper's The Last Movie fits this description by all means – it is an acid dipped western that explores the clash between cultures and the hazy border between fiction and reality. After being unavailable for several decades, we invite you to plunge into its fresh 4K restoration.
Entrance to all screenings is free of charge.
We are very much looking forward to spending some time together with you in the days to come!
