The last day of the Festival concludes the International Competition program, together with the Croatian program Reflexes. In the morning, we screen Olivia, a feature film by festival laureate Sofía Petersen, and at the Klet studio-gallery, there will be a panel titled Cinemagoers Without Cinemas. In the evening, the awards will be presented and the awarded films screened.
Today, we start at 11 a.m. at the Kinoteka Cinema, with a screening of Olivia, a feature film by Argentinian director Sofía Petersen, whose Passing Place won the Grand Prix at the 2021 Festival. The luxuriant Olivia, shot on 16mm Ektachrome in the very south of Argentina with a small film crew, is a story of a daughter who sets out to search for her father in Tierra del Fuego. The film will be presented to the Zagreb audience by the film’s director and the producer.
At noon, there will be a panel on Film Festivals and Their New Realities: Cinemagoers Without Cinemas at the Klet studio-gallery, in collaboration with the European Short Film Network. A number of film professionals, curators and cultural strategists will jointly discuss how to develop audiences in cities without cinemas, with a special focus on Zagreb.
The Croatian competition program, Reflexes, will start at 4 p.m. at the Kinoteka cinema, where five films will be screened: the gentle Alice in Wonder by Maja Ležaić, the eco-archival Interference by Karla Mesek, the subtle Streetside Balcony by Marija Georgiev, the pervasive Exterminata by Vladislav Knežević, and the apocalyptic Blackmuck by Tin Žanić. All the filmmakers but Maja Ležaić will join us for a conversation.
We close the International Competition program with the 'Forces' program block at 6 p.m., with five films that resist the fast-paced, capitalist society in various ways, through a manifestation of dark slime, deconstruction of the surveillance society, collages of computer images, or multiple exposures that take us back to the beginnings of the world. Adrià Expòsit-Goy, director of Pneuma, will present his film to the audience. Also on the program are Yuyan Wang’s Green Grey Black Brown, Nada El-Omari’s Momentum, fleuryfontaine’s Sixty-seven Milliseconds, and Mike Hoolboom’s Wind.
At 8:30 p.m., there will be an award ceremony and a screening of the awarded films. The Grand Jury, consisting of Erika Balsom, Stoffel Debuysere and Michael Robinson, will award their three Grand Prix, and the Critics’ Jury, consisting of Bartol Babić Vukmir, Dario Dunatov and Vanja Gajić, will present the Critics award as well as an award for the best Croatian film in the Reflexes category. The Green DCP awards, chosen by the Audiovisual Research Association 25 FPS, and the Audience Award will also be presented.
