Winners of the 21st 25 FPS Festival

Here are the laureates of the 21st edition of 25 FPS Festival!

GRAND JURY GRAND PRIX
Erika Balsom, Stoffel Debuysere, Michael Robinson

Momentum by Nada El-Omari
"A film about wanting to see.

To see through the eyes of another
past the veil of newspeak and doublethink
through the lens of time past and present

A seeing beyond the verge of sight
a seeing in memory and dedication,
probing towards the question what it means to believe.

To believe in the force of the collective
and the strength of images
to bear witness and speak truth,
then and now, there as well as here.“"

Being John Smith by John Smith
”This film is a monument to the glorious ordinary. There, its maker finds an inexhaustible wealth of stories and faces, worries and dreams – as well as the possibility of redeeming individuality from being just another thing for sale. This film underlines how firmly the “I” is nestled within a “we,” a collectivity that encompasses not just the thousands of others out there who share the artist’s name, but also the millions more with whom he must share a fragile and unequal world.”

Green Grey Black Brown by Yuyan Wang
“Grotesque, tactile and terrifying, this alluring work of cinematic poetry managed to feel both prehistoric and post-human yet is disturbingly recognizable as the present.  Conjured through a propulsive montage of goop, slime, crud and rubble, the toxicity of humankind takes physical form, as a haunting soundtrack pulls us through the mud with its own detached slickness.”

GRAND JURY SPECIAL MENTION
Erika Balsom, Stoffel Debuysere, Michael Robinson

Sinking Feeling by Zachary Epcar
"A beguiling, spacious, and transportive work of suspended tension, that looks for new forms of intimacy in the antiseptic.  An urban office park becomes a reflecting pool for the erotic fantasies of a derailed train where we wait, shake and survive together.”

CRITICS JURY AWARD
Bartol Babić Vukmir, Dario Dunatov, Vanja Gajić

Being John Smith by John Smith
“This is a film that has stuck with us since the first day of the festival because of its warm humour, sharp self-awareness, humble greatness, and its seemingly associative structure which is, in fact, carefully pieced together.”

REFLEXES GRAND PRIX
Bartol Babić Vukmir, Dario Dunatov, Vanja Gajić

Blackmuck by Tin Žanić
"A film which surprised us with its aggressive, elliptical editing which kills our every attempt at finding a safe ground in its muddy, brightly coloured pictures."

AUDIENCE AWARD

Loynes by Dorian Jespers

GREEN DCP AWARD
Association 25 FPS

Alice in Wonder by Maja Ležaić
"A film that won us over with its playfulness, tenderness and dreamlike language. Starting from personal experience, the film builds a layered imaginary that evokes universal memories of childhood."
