Bogancloch
Ben Rivers UK, IS, DE, 2024, 85', DCPBogancloch is Jake Williams’ home, nestled in a vast highland forest of Scotland. The film portrays his life throughout the seasons, with other people occasionally crossing into his otherwise solitary life. A sequel to Two Years at Sea (2011), Bogancloch marks Ben Rivers’ return to his old film subject – Jake Williams.
“I made one of my first short films with Jake, and will no doubt continue making films with him until one of us dies. I’m interested in the idea of returning to a person and seeing how we repeat some gestures, return to obsessions, but also to see how these change because of how the world has changed. How this particular way of life reads at this particular time, or a projected future, for better or worse.”
Ben Rivers (1972) is an artist and filmmaker living and working in London. His films tread a fine line between documentary and fiction, often following people who have in some way separated themselves from mainstream society, creating oblique narratives imagining alternative existences. His work has been screened and exhibited at numerous international festivals and galleries across the world, winning many awards.
