Framing
Bert Gottschalk Bildfenster | Fensterbilder, DE, 2007, 6', 35 mmSingle frames of 8 millimeter films are compared to the windows of house facades in a big city. Film cameras shoot 24 single frames per second: Story-telling pictures. Looking at a single picture of a film is like looking through a window of a house facade. In both cases one can see only an extract of a happening more or less randomly framed and set into a new environment. How many windows does a house, a street, a city have? What happens behind these windows? Stories as you can see them in the cinema. The contraction allows the viewer to focus his attention on details. The protagonists are hands.
