Day three at 25 FPS 2026
The third day of the festival, at Kinoteka, we will be watching the selection of jury member Federico Windhausen, A Chorographic Cinema, two international competition sections and Expanded Cinema with Lynn Loo and Guy Sherwin.
Writer and curator Federico Windhausen will open the festival Thursday with his film programme at 4 pm. A Chorographic Cinema gathers recent works from Latin America that deal with visualisations of urban and rural landscapes and delineate alternative geographies, directing our attention to areas of collective significance, surfaces, objects and materials of shared history and meaning. The films display a whole range of techniques and methods, foregrounding forms of mediation.
An international competition segment, 'Force Lines', is scheduled for 6 pm, featuring together three films of intense material, visual and (trans)genre transgressions, beyond documentary, speculation and reflection on the past. We will be watching the extremely fluid Planetenwerk by Lukas Marxt and Michael Petri, the political-visual fantasy Hidden Materials by Luis Esguerra Cifuentes, and the dense, tactile film Câine pierdut by Jules Bourbon. Petri, Cifuentes, and Bourbon will join us for a Q&A session after the screening.
The competition programme segment, at 8.30 pm, features ‘Metamorphoses,’ an audiovisual exploration of personal, social, and aesthetic change, questioning what it means to surrender to the inexorable passage of time. There are five films in the program: Hiding Places ‘an attempt at unselfing’ by Magdalena Bermudez, Johann Lurf’s time-lapse Forever…Forever, Charlotte Pryce’s biomystical The Gloaming, Shireen Seno’s tender film You dreamt you saw yourself but couldn't see your face, and Victor van Rossem’s tactile exploration toward a fundamental theory of physics. Filmmaker Van Rossem and Christian Zagler, projectionist and collaborator on Johann Lurf's film, will attend the Q&A after the screening.
The day will close at 10.30 pm with Guy Sherwin and Lynn Loo’s triple 16mm projection performance on Japanese mulberry bark paper, Washi MM. The film is created by gluing coloured washi tape at intermittent intervals onto blank film, which is then processed at home. Their work explores line, shape, shadow and depth, and the patterns themselves directly create the film’s optical soundscape. We will interview the artists after the performance.
