Our two new curated film programs are now available at the THIS IS SHORT platform: Seeing Is Believing comprises films that revolve around a variety of rituals and rites, and how they affect the way we see our reality, and Curious Light that is interested in the way the light shapes and transforms image.
First film program for THIS IS SHORT invites us to enter a world where myth, memory, and imagination blur the boundaries of truth. Seeing Is Believing brings together films that explore how rituals, both real and invented, shape our perception of reality. From visions and trance states to speculative futures and ancestral hauntings, these cinematic journeys blend oral history with performative storytelling. In the heart of the jungle, across phantasmal roads, and through forgotten cities, belief becomes a lens and what we see might just be what we become.
Films included are TRYPPS #6 (MALOBI) (r. Ben Russell, US, 2009, 11'), Heliopolis Heliopolis (r. Juan David Gonzales Monroy & Anja Dornieden, DE, 2017, 26'), La bala de Sandoval (r. Jean-Jacques Martinod, EC, 2019, 17'), and Curupira E A Máquina Do Destino (r. Janaina Wagner, BR, 2024, 24')
Our second curated program, Curious Light is an exploration of the ways in which light transforms images, shapes our perception of reality, and plays with meaning. It penetrates prisms and formaldehyde glass jars, travels through deep tunnels, plays on the pages of a book, reflects off the surface of the sea, and hides painful secrets. Immerse yourself in the interplay of colors and shadows where camera movement is a tool with which we question the past, present, and future, and what we don't see is as unknown to us as what we do see.
As part of the program, the following titles are available: Look on the Bright Side (r. Yuyan Wang, FR/IT, 2023, 17'), Intrusion (Vdor) (r. Matevž Jerman & Niko Novak, SI, 2021, 11'), Lunar Almanac (r. Malena Szlam, CA, 2013, 4'), i deeply regret (r. Karø Goldt, DE, 2008, 2'), and Mare Imbrium (r. Siegfried Fruhauf, AT, 2024, 12').
