Premiere of Ana Buljan's film En el medio, si viene, produced by Association 25 FPS

At the upcoming Festival edition in September, in the waning days of summer, we are excited to invite you to the premiere of a subtle Cuba-set story by Ana Buljan, In the middle, if it comes (En el medio, si viene). The film will be screened out of competition on Tuesday, September 22, at 6 PM at Kinoteka Cinema (Kordunska ulica 1).

En el medio, si viene is a film that traces fragments of memories, drifting like spirits and birds, into the hands of children, being twisted like a Rubik's cube, with every turn revealing a new story. The kids are busy daydreaming as the phone rings, the sea rises, and another story unfurls through their innate acts of resistance and tenderness.

As the filmmakers explains, her time in Cuba was spent searching for a film rooted in the poetics of space, which led her to a visual archive of unplanned encounters, guided by chance and curiosity. On the rooftop of a former convent in Old Havana, now home to many families, local children drifted into the frame and redirected the story. Guided by their imagination, Ana Buljan explores the ghostly universes of the city's inner and outer architecture, visiting places of surreal persistance, attempting to defy the relentless flow of time.

Ana Buljan's practice moves between fine art, film and the spaces of sudden realisation. She was educated in Zagreb, Rotterdam, and Cuba, and has spent time living and working across Europe and the Americas. Her films - In the Middle, If It Comes (2026), Whatever Is Not a Desert Does Not Exist (2023), and Aleph Zeta (XVII): the Star (2020) - have been shown at Eye Amsterdam, Tent Rotterdam, Microscope Gallery NYC, SPBH Milan, and MSU Zagreb, among others. As a production designer she has worked on projects including HBO's Succession, for which she received an Emmy nomination in 2020. She is a member of the European Film Academy.

Besides directing, Ana Buljan also shot the film herself; the editing was done by Miro Manojlović; Jakov Munižaba was the sound recordist, with Luka Gamulin in charge of sound design; color grading by Nikola Marinković; Tena Trstenjak is the producer.
